SHILLONG: The Congress’s election committee will meet after the holidays to finalise the names of candidates for the 2018 Assembly elections, Ronnie Lyngdoh, who is a member of the panel, has said.
The Congress, which will contest from all the 60 constituencies, has already distributed applications for candidature. The process started on August 31.
More than 100 forms were issued and the party has received multiple applications in several constituencies.
It is learnt that retired government official Jopthiaw Lyngdoh has applied from Nartiang, currently represented by Congress legislator Sniawbhalang Dhar.
Also, George Lyngdoh, the son of former chief minister EK Mawlong, has taken form for Umroi constituency.
In addition, five independent MLAs are also set to contest on Congress ticket.
