SHILLONG: BJP ticket aspirant from Jirang, Comfort Doloi has underlined the need to bring about a change in the constituency which has in the past three and a half decades seen mostly representatives who do not belong to the constituency in the Assembly.
Addressing reporters in the city, Doloi, said, “Jirang constituency since the time Meghalaya attained its statehood has been represented in the Assembly mostly by those who are not originally from the constituency.”
He informed that only Snomik Kalwing and Gerson Lyngdoh were original residents of the constituency who had won the MLA elections in the 70s and 80s respectively.
Doloi further said almost all the candidates from Jirang constituency contesting the 2018 Assembly elections are crorepatis.
He also informed that his first task if he won the election would be to set up a civil sub-division at Patharhmah.
In 2003, Doloi had contested the Assembly election as an HSPDP candidate from Jirang constituency.
