SHILLONG: As most of the political parties in the state have announced their candidates for the upcoming polls, the Bhatatiya Janata Party  (BJP) too will release the names of some of its candidates in a couple of days.

BJP MeghalayaGeneral Secretary, B Khongwir   on Saturday told reporters that the party was preparing for the elections in full swing and added that the names of the candidates would be released in a couple of days.

Khongwir however refused to  divulge as which sitting legislators would join the BJP as the matter was under process.

When asked if the Christian community of Meghalaya will  accept the ideology of BJP in view of the recent attacks in Madhya Pradesh and other places,   Khongwir said that India was a big country and small things keep on happening.

“One small incident does not mean that BJP is anti  Christian,”  he said, adding that the State BJP leaders who are Christians have already raised the matter with the Party leaders and accordingly action has been taken in this regard.

Meanwhile, he also said that the BJP would contest in maximum number of seats including  24  from Garo Hills.

However, party will not contest in a few seats from  Khasi-Jaintia Hills region as the party’s organization is yet to go to roots in some areas   and BJP will not like to waste  its time in those constituencies where BJP’s chances are grim.

On being asked about alliance, he said that the party would go all alone in the upcoming polls and now there was no question of having any alliance since elections are very near.

He also said that top party leaders including KJ Alphonse, Himanta Biswa Sarma and even Prime Minister, Narendra Modi might come to state for campaigning.
