SHILLONG:  Rilang Pyngrope, the mother who allegedly beat her 14 –year-old child with a piece of firewood leading to his death was granted bail by the police on Sunday.

Gerry Pyngrope, who was beaten up by his mother, Rilang for losing Rs 10 given to him to buy vegetables, succumbed to his injuries in hospital around 3 A.M on Saturday morning.

The incident happened at Khlieh Shnong locality on the way to Mawlynrei village.

The chairperson of the State Commission for Protection of Child Right (SCPCR), Meena Kharkongor had asked the police to ensure that the woman, who had no remorse, was not granted bail.

It is said that the woman was suffering from hypertension.

“I took exception to the bail and I raised the matter with the District SP and he has assured me that action will be taken in this regard,” Kharkongor said.

Kharkongor slammed the local police saying the woman should have been produced in the court and they would not have had any objection if she was granted bail by the Court.

“These things do not throw a very good light on the matter,” she added.
