Road accidents kill 6 since December 25

SHILLONG: As many as six persons were killed since December 25 in separate road accidents in the state.

 A female occupant of a vehicle, ML-10A-6346, succumbed to her injuries after the vehicle plunged into a dam at Kyrdemkulai (RB) on January 1.

The vehicle was driven by Athanasius Mawlong. In the incident, three female occupants sustained injuries and were removed to the CHC at Umsning where one of the injured, Wandashisha Sohphoh succumbed to her injuries.

Meanwhile, on the night of December 29,  Karmello Kharbani (28 ) was killed reportedly, after being ran over by one truck (number not known) at Nongprut village (West Khasi Hills).

His wife took him to the CHC Riangdo but he died on reaching the CHC. Necessary formalities have been observed and the dead body was handed over to the relatives.

On the other hand, a coal laden truck (ML-06-6200) driven by Chesterfield Nongphud, capsized at Thateja in South West Khasi Hills District on December 29 at around 7:30 pm.

As a result, the driver along with three occupants, viz., (1) Andrias Nongsiej, (2) Teiningstar L. Nonglait and (3) Wendolin L Nonglait, died at the spot.

In another case of collision, a truck (WB-23B-4615) driven by Gautama collided with another truck (AS-01HC-0188) driven by Bijoy Bikram Jamatia at 12th Mile, Byrnihat, Ri-Bhoi, on December 30.

As a result, drivers of both trucks sustained injuries and were shifted to the CHC at Byrnihat. Matter is under enquiry.

Again, on December 16, 2017 one motorcycle (ML-08B-2011) knocked down Jamina Bewa at Lalmati in West Garo Hills. As a result, she sustained injuries and was shifted to a hospital at Guwahati.
