Garo Hills area reels under cold wave

TURA: The New year has ushered in a drastic change in the weather across the entire of Garo Hills which is reeling under cold wave conditions since the past three days.
Night temperatures have dropped to single digits even in Tura and it’s outskirts and weather data revealed that Saturday night was by far the coldest in the last one year with Ganol region, on the outskirts of Tura, recording a temperature of around 6 degree Celsius.
Even Tura was not spared as temperature dropped to 8 degree Celsius past midnight of Saturday.
What has further aggravated the extreme weather conditions is the presence of a cold wind blowing in from the plains into the hill areas since the past five days.
The streets of Tura wore a deserted look after 7:30 in the evening as most people preferred to stay confined in the warmth of their homes.
The met department is expecting a warmer condition in the next few days.
