Election department seeks 107 Cos of CAPF for Meghalaya polls

SHILLONG:  The State Election department has sought for 107 companies of Central Armed Paramilitary Forces (CAPF) in the state for holding the forthcoming Assembly polls.

Meghalaya CEO, FR Kharkongor said that the they are waiting for the   approval of the Ministry of Home Affairs   for request made by the State Election machinery.

“In addition, assessment has also been done for    vulnerable and critical polling stations,” Kharkongor said.

Out of 3082 polling stations in the state, 536 have been categorised as “vulnerable”, another 444 critical and 67 vulnerable as well as critical, while the rest 2025 were declared as normal

Polling station in the state has been increased to 3082 with an increase of   597 polling station since the 2013 Assembly elections.

It may be mentioned that there are a number of polling stations in East Garo Hills and South Garo Hills districts where security measures have been taken due to militancy-related problems.

The number of eligible voters is more than 18 lakh out of over 32 lakh population in the state.
