SHILLONG: The Election Department has asked for 107 companies of Central Armed Paramilitary Forces (CAPF) for the Assembly elections.
Chief Electoral Officer FR Kharkongor said they are waiting for the approval of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
“In addition, assessment has also been done for vulnerable and critical polling stations,” Kharkongor said.
Out of 3,082 polling stations in the state, 536 have been categorised as vulnerable, 444 critical and 67 vulnerable and critical. The remaining 2,025 booths are normal.
This year, the number of polling stations has increased from the 2013 election by 597.
There are a number of polling stations in East and South Garo Hills where security measures have been taken due to militancy.
The number of eligible voters is more than 18 lakh out of over 32 lakh population in the state.
The final draft electoral roll is expected to be ready by January 10 following which there will be announcement of polls.
