UDP to introduce poll candidates in Thursday rally in Shillong

SHILLONG:  As the public rallies that area organised in the city have become a platform for political parties to show their strength, the United Democratic Party (UDP) which is organising a massive public rally on Thursday in Malki is expecting a minimum of 20000-strong crowd in the rally.

Earlier, the NPP had claimed that more than 10000 attended their rally in Polo followed by the rally of the BJP in which Prime Minister, Narendra Modi participated and the rally was attended by around 10000 people.

UDP leader, Bindo M Lanong said that the party in the rally would introduce its   candidates to the public besides some flagship programmes of the party would also be announced.

The party will also announce the names of some of its candidates for different constituencies.

“There will be speeches from the top leaders of the party and the District Presidents,” Lanong said.

Lanong said that the party was contesting in 34 constituencies in the upcoming polls.

It may be mentioned that the UDP has also forged a pre-poll alliance with Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) in Khasi Hills region while a similar alliance has been forged with Garo National Council (GNC) in Garo Hills.

The UDP which did not perform well in the last 2013 Assembly polls is projecting itself as the alternative in Meghalaya and are hoping to emerge as the single largest party in the polls.
