BJP to announce names of candidates within a week
SHILLONG: The BJP will announce the names of candidates within a week while the state leadership made it clear that entry of four legislators does not mean that tickets are reserved for them.
State BJP president Shibun Lyngdoh said on Wednesday that the state leadership has already forwarded the names of candidates to the central election committee on January 5.
“The central leadership will carry out a survey before announcing the names of candidates,” Lyngdoh said.
According to the BJP leader, the state leaders had already carried out several rounds of survey regarding candidates.
There are three to four ticket aspirants in some constituencies, he said.
Recently, four legislators, AL Hek (Congress), Sanbor Shullai (NCP) and Independents Justine Dkhar and Robinus Syngkon joined the saffron party.
To a question, Lyngdoh said though the legislators joined the party, BJP does not have any system to reserve tickets for them.
“Allotment of tickets will depend on the survey and final assessment,” Lyngdoh said.
He said the party is prepared to fight all the 60 seats.
Congress election panel to decide list on Friday
SHILLONG: The election committee meeting of the Congress will be held on January 12 to decide on the candidates. The party will announce the names after getting nod from AICC.
Congress spokesperson and election committee member Ronnie V Lyngdoh said on Tuesday that the names may be announced anytime after the meeting.
He also downplayed the exodus of Congress candidates from the party.
“Though desertions were there in the party, we are being flooded with candidates and there is a rush to get tickets,” Lyngdoh said.
Four independents and one NCP legislator are also set to join the party.
Chief Minister Mukul Sangma may contest from two seats, Ampati and Songsak.
The Congress in the state had received more than 100 applications from people who wanted to contest on the party’s ticket.
While NPP, UDP and HSPDP have announced the names of their candidates for the polls, national parties like BJP and the Congress are yet to decide the names.
Similarly, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has announced the names of four candidates and KHNAM has named a few candidates.
