3 extortionists nabbed

TURA: Three youth from East Garo Hills have been arrested by police for allegedly trying to extort money from a businessman by using the name of the banned GNLA outfit.

The three criminals, Wilberth T Sangma (20) of Chidimit Nengsat, Wister N Marak (20) of Dawagittinggre and Salgra Ch Sangma (25) of Mangsang Mari A’pal had served a demand note to a businessman of Nangapa bazaar on the 9th of this month.

The extortionists had demanded a sum of Rs. 4.5 lakh rupees from the businessman and to instill fear on their victim had even dispatched one live round of AK bullet along with the letter. All three were arrested on Thursday night from three different locations.
