Case against activists for taking on Shullai

SHILLONG: Police have registered a case against two local activists who filed an FIR against BJP member Sanbor Shullai alleging nepotism in government jobs.
The case was registered on Wednesday after an order passed by a local court on Monday.
The case against activists Agnes Kharshiing, president of Civil Society Women’s Organisation (CSWO), and Angela Rangad, member of the Thma U Rangli (TUR), was registered under Sections 182 and 500.
Section 182 relates to false information, with intent to cause public servant to use his lawful power to the injury of another person. Section 500 relates to criminal defamation.
The activists had alleged that Shullai practised nepotism in the appointment to various posts in the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly.
Shullai, who was inducted into the BJP recently, had filed a counter FIR against Kharshiing and Rangad stating that the employees were recruited as per rules and he had no role in the selection process.
The former NCP MLA had argued that questioning only the appointment of his relatives was “highly vindictive”.
