SHILLONG: The Congress will release the names of candidates after the announcement of the date of the Assembly polls.
Though the election committee of the Congress will meet at the residence of former chief minister DD Lapang on Friday night, the announcement of candidates will take some more time, a party leader said on Thursday.
According to the party leader, the state election committee will forward the names of candidates to AICC that will take a final call on the matter.
However, the names will not be released before the announcement of the election date.
BJP too has decided to wait for the poll date announcement before declaring the names.
In 2013, the Election Commission had announced the date of polls on January 11 scheduling it for February 23 that year.
