SHILLONG: Weary of under development in Pynthorumkhrah constituency, a practising advocate of Meghalaya High Court and Sessions Court, Aneeta Synrem has decided to throw in her hat in the ring for the forthcoming elections of 2018.

Speaking to reporters on Friday, Synrem clarified that she was still in the election race, quashing rumours doing the rounds that she would not contest the elections.

Commenting on the scenario in Pynthorumkhrah, she argued that Pynthorumkhrah was underdeveloped despite being represented by 4-time former MLA, AL Hek who recently joined BJP.

“There are no street lights, no proper drainage system. I can do much better for the people of the constituency,” she said adding that she will raise the issue of safety and security of women in the Assembly.

She maintained that women should not be confined within the four walls of the house but also be given chances to serve the society.

Synrem admitted that it would be a daunting task for her to face Hek who has represented the constituency for four terms but expressed confidence of getting the Pynthorumkhrah seat this election.

“It depends on the people to see the potential in me. The people have started losing faith in him (Hek) and he is also losing ground. I am not here to make wealth,” she added.

Synrem had been in the teaching profession for 10 years and left the job to study law and informed that she did have a house of her own and stays in a rented house.
