SHILLONG: There are as many as 47 locations in East Khasi Hills which are prone to violence during the Assembly elections.
These locations were categorised as vulnerable and critical polling stations under the 17 constituencies of East Khasi Hills.
East Khasi Hills SP Davis Marak said vulnerability mapping has been carried out by the police and the district administration.
West Shillong and Sohiong, among others, figure on the list of vulnerable constituencies.
In West Shillong constituency, which is currently held by Paul Lyngdoh of UDP, there were incidents of attacks by supporters of candidates in the past.  Sohiong, which is represented by Home Minister HDR Lyngdoh, is also under scanner.
A polling station is categorised as vulnerable due to political rivalry whereas a critical constituency is one where voters are influenced by the candidates.
Among the total 893 polling stations in East Khasi Hills, while there are 36 vulnerable ones, 11 have been categorised as critical.
Out of the 17 constituencies in East Khasi Hills, while 15 will be handled by the East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner in the capacity of retuning officer, Sohra and Shella will be looked after by the sub divisional officer of Sohra.
