Drug abuse, militancy in focus on Youth day

SHILLONG: National Youth Day was celebrated at Basic School at Pdengshnong Smit on January 12 with discussions on the rights, duties and responsibilities of youngsters in society as well as women empowerment. Expressing concern over the spurt in substance abuse by youth and militancy related incidents, chief guest Egenstar Kurkalang slammed the state government for not extending support or even utilising the existing schemes properly. Referring to Swamiji’s speech, “arise, awake and stop not until the goal is reach”, Kurkalang said youths play a key role in nation building.

Cong West Shillong members ‘still with party’

SHILLONG: The West Shillong Block Congress Committee, Lamavilla unit, has clarified that its leaders have not quit the party.Olginia Massar, a party member, has asserted that she has not joined NPP and the report was only meant to create differences in party members who support Mahendro Rapsang, a ticket aspirant.

Contractors’ body formed in GH

TURA: The GHADC Contractors Union was formed recently in West Garo Hills with the aim of taking up matters related to problems faced by contractors.The new body will be led by Cary Ch Marak as the President, Diraj D. Marak as Vice President, Edward K. Sangma as Secretary, Selnilla A. Sangma as Joint secretary and Brucelinda G. Momin as Treasurer cum Accountant along with ten other executive members.
