East Khasi Hills district declared ODF

SHILLONG: The biggest and the most advanced district of Meghalaya, East Khasi Hills District is now open defecation free (ODF) .

Deputy Commissioner of the district, PS Dkhar informed that the District was declared ODF few days back.

“We have sent our report to the Ministry and they have accepted our report,” he said.

However, the District Administration is awaiting the final certification from the Centre.

The criteria for declaring a district ODF is that each and every household in the district should have a toilet.

The concept of declaring is the district ODF is all about household toilets even as he added that there are no issues as far as open defecation in the city as every household in the city has toilet.

“Even  5-6 tenants  have one toilet in town,” he added.

The deputy commissioner further informed that people in the rural areas were being given Rs 12,000 for the construction of toilets under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan

Apart   from East Khasi Hills, South West Khasi Hills District has also been declared as ODF.
