SHILLONG: After the recent meeting of the political parties of Meghalaya with the Election Commission of India, the Commission has directed that in case the Control Unit (CU) or the Ballot Unit (BU) does not work properly during the actual poll, the replacement of whole EVMs including CU, BU and VVPAT is required.
Earlier, the direction of the commission was that in case the BU or CU does not work properly, only the defective BU or CU should be replaced.
The new direction of the Election Commission replaces the old order.
However, the Commission said that only one vote to each contesting candidate including NOTA should be polled in the mock poll.
After the mock poll, the presiding officer will ascertain the result in the CPU, count the VVPAT paper slips in the presence of the polling agents and confirm that the results tally for each candidate.
Media gets hands-on training
Media persons on Monday received hands on training on VVPAT ahead of the polls.
Various doubts on the functioning of VVPAT were raised on the occasion and the answers were provided by the experts.
Vehicle requisition
for polls
Ahead of the assembly polls, the state government has issued a notification whereby owners of the categories of vehicles will be paid compensation when the vehicles are requisitioned by the government for public purposes.
A statement said that in addition to the rate prescribed, a night haltage allowance will also be provided to the vehicle owners.
The revised rate of compensation is inclusive of wages of drivers and handymen.
The actual P.O.L. charges for requisitioned vehicles will be borne by the government.
