SHILLONG: The All Jaiñtia Youth Welfare Organisation (AJYWO) central body has accused the government of neglecting the people of Wapung, particularly the two Dorbar Shnong, Wapungskur and Wapungshnong.
The government had on April 22 last year laid the foundation stone for C&RD block at Wapungskur at a cost of around Rs 1.5 lakh. “However, after eight months, the block was given to Lumshnong on January 9 with reasons best known to the government,” said MH Dkhar, president of AJYWO.
“The two Dorbar Shnongs toiled for four years working hand in hand with the government in finding a feasible land at Wapungskur for the construction of the office. The land was bought and gifted to the government free of cost since it was not traditionally inherited by the Dorbar Shnong,” he said, adding, “Who will compensate for the loss incurred by the Dorbar Shnong for the construction work.”
The organisation said had the government been serious about the welfare of people, it would have created a separate block at Lumshnong. Calling it “intolerable” and “a political game of some vested groups”, AJYWO said, “How can we trust a government who gives today but takes it back tomorrow? We want a government who gives, not takes away what we have.”
The body demanded that Wapung C&RD block be restored.
