SHILLONG: The under construction Umsning bypass, which is an integral part of the Umiam-Jorabat four-lane expressway would be opened for vehicular traffic in March.

An official from the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) informed that 60-70 per cent of the work has been completed and currently they were working on the minor bridge and vehicle underpass.

Once the by-pass is completed, Umiam-Jorabat four-lane road project would finally see its completion. The 5.6 kilometer road is already delayed.

Meanwhile, the officials also stated that the overlay work of the existing Umsning road has been almost completed.

“Only around 70 metres work is left in the market area and we will complete it shortly,” the official said.

It may be mentioned that the   existing Umsning road was in terrible condition and the overlay work began only after the intervention of the High Court of Meghalaya.
