SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Pradesh Youth Congress( MPYC) has said that the exodus of several members in Baghmara will not affect the party.
In a statement, MPYC president Richard M. Marak clarified that the president and vice president of Baghmara Youth Congress and the DCC and the Mahila presidents who resigned were recently enrolled as members.
Marak said those who resigned and supported the local MLA Samuel Sangma were accommodated into the party at the sacrifice of loyal party workers.
“The reasons for their exit are because they were mere pawns in the hands of Samuel Sangma…Not only that, he also tried bargaining for a cabinet berth in the next government which the party refused ,” Marak said. He alleged that Sangma’s moves were anticipated before hand and the only people who exited the party were his supporters and not true party workers.
“The party is not weakened by the exit of pawns and bargaining chips, in fact it has been strengthened because the loyal party workers remain and the youth are strong and will keep working towards a common goal, the overall development of Baghmara cin particular and the development of Meghalaya in general,” he added.
