TURA: The Marian Sodality of the Catholic Church under the Tura Diocese has begun a three-day convention from Friday as part of its silver jubilee celebrations at Don Bosco school field in Tura.
Over 2000 delegates of the Sodality from the different corners of Garo Hills began arriving early Friday morning to attend the celebrations which will culminate with a special church service on Sunday.
Expressing joy in the silver jubilee celebrations, the director of Marian Sodality Rev. Fr. Anthony Xavier said that the congregation had become a beacon of hope in the church as well as in the society.
The theme of this year’s celebrations is a call to devotees to join together and give praise to God.
The three-day convention will witness meetings, deliberations, meditations and prayer sessions.
The Sodality which is a congregation of women belonging to the Catholic Church of Tura diocese was formed in 1993 under the guidance of the then director, Rev. Fr. Thomas Mankin. The Sodality holds its annual convention in different parishes of the Diocese beginning with the Sacred Heart Parish Tura in 1993 and 1994.
The Sodality which began with 150 members have now grown to over six thousand in number. Its members along with the teachings of the church have dedicated their service to the activities of the church and also contribute to the social activities in the community.
