SHILLONG: The textile traditions of Ri Bhoi district will come alive during an exhibition of traditional hand woven textiles from the Khasi Bhoi, the Karbis and the Khadar Lyngdoh communities to be held at Savio Hall, Laitumkhrah from January 24 for three days.
The exhibition is a presentation of the textile archive collected by Anna-Louise Meynell, a Scottish weaver and researcher, during her PhD fieldwork in 2016-17.
It aims to showcase the diverse skills of the weavers, and the rich textile heritage of Ri Bhoi district.
The designs, techniques and colours of the textiles used reveals about the cultural heritage of the artisan communities that has survived and responded to changes in society over generations, a craft that continues to evolve.
Weavers from Ri Bhoi will be selling their products at the event. The opening event will be on Wednesday between 4pm and 7pm and the exhibition will continue on January 25 and 26 from 10am-7pm.
