SHILLONG: As Congress is gearing up for the Assembly polls, the AICC General Secretary CP Joshi arrived here on Monday to oversee the party’s poll-time affairs.

Shortly after arriving, Joshi met Chief Minister, Mukul Sangma besides the leaders of the Meghalaya Pradesh Youth Congress.

It was learnt that Joshi would be present in the   Congress poll panel meeting which will be held on Tuesday   to recommend the names of the poll candidates.

Joshi will also meet MPCC president besides others   during his three-day visit to Shillong.

Joshi on Monday evening refused to speak to media persons saying he was yet to get feedbacks from the party leaders here and he would give credible information to media later on.

Joshi during informal discussion, however, said that the decision to allot tickets to the candidates was taken at the highest level of the   party.

It may be mentioned that the ruling Congress has already made it clear that it will contest in all the 60 seats of the state and it has received more than 100 applications from the individuals who are willing to contest the polls on a Congress ticket.

The party in the recent past however has suffered from desertions as many of its sitting legislators left the party.
