TURA: The Congress has lost 42 prominent members in North Garo Hills’ Resubelpara constituency, which is represented by Salseng C Marak.
The leaders at the district and block levels have blamed the local MLA for following dictatorial ways.
Chisal R Sangma, president and general secretary of the North Garo Hills District Congress Committee (DCC), alleged that the MLA ignored their suggestions when it came to functioning of the party or the district’s development.
“This is why the constituency has failed to develop,” said Sangma.
Marak won the seat in the 2013 Assembly elections after defeating NPP candidate Timothy D Shira. Those who quit the party have decided to support Independent candidate and greenhorn Braize Adoniza G Momin. “We want to choose a young, energetic, visionary and dynamic leader for the development of the area. Our motto is ‘change for change’ and that is why we have left the party and decided to support Momin,” they said.
Among those who resigned include presidents, secretaries and other leaders of the district, block and primary committees.
