TURA: At a time when Tura MP Conrad Sangma has accused North Tura MLA, Noverfield Marak of not developing his constituency and repairing the Goeragre to Babadam PWD road, a local youth body – Babadam Area Youth Development Committee (BAYDC) – has raised the issue of bad roads in the area.
According to the Committee, no work has started on three road repair projects under the PMGSY scheme which includes the stretch from Sanchonggre to Galwanggre Songma, Kama Dumitdikgre village road and a road from Dipu Chiring culvert to Chidekgre A’king. As per the Committee’s claim, the Babadam to Buripara and Babadam to Balipara roads under the PMGSY scheme have been long abandoned.
“The funds sanctioned by the government are being misused. We will no longer take it lying down and take strong action against such apathy,” said the BAYDC.
The Committee also questioned the state government’s move of inaugurating the Goeragre to Babadam PWD road while it was still incomplete. It claimed that proper drains have also not been constructed in many places along the road. The incomplete road was recently inaugurated during the programme for laying the foundation stone of the Babadam Mini Stadium.
Earlier, Tura MP Conrad Sangma had blamed the local MLA’s inaction for the bad roads in the area. Noverfield, who is the sitting MLA issued a clarification listing the development works undertaken by him in the area.
