GUWAHATI: Major General Rana Pratap Kalita from Assam has been awarded Ati Vishist Sena Medal (AVSM) on the occasion of Republic Day. He was commanding a Division in Line of Control in J&K.
He hails from Rangiya in Assam and an alumnus of Sainik School, Goalpara in Assam. He then went onto study in National Defence Academy (NDA) and Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehradun. He was commissioned to Kumaon Regiment in 1984. He has already been awarded VSM (two times) and SM in his service period so far.
He commanded 13 RR Battalion in Kashmir, 71 Infantry Brigade in Lucknow and 19 Infantry Division in Baramula LOC.
He had held various staff and instructional assignments in Army headquarters, College of Combat Mhow. Prior to taking over Baramula Division, he was Brigadier General staff operation in 15 Corps Srinagar. He also served tenure as a member of UN Peacekeeing force.
