SHILLONG: Freedom eludes the chairman of GNLA, Champion Sangma, who was released on bail on January 23 by the lower court in connection with a criminal case in Baghmara that was transferred to Shillong.
Sangma’s wife, Enrita N Marak, on Thursday alleged that after the city court had ordered for the release of Champion, a bail bond was executed on Thursday, but an order was issued to Shillong jail authorities on Wednesday stating that he should not be released since he is wanted in connection with a case under Mendipathar police station.
However, the wife wondered why the investigating officer did not arrest her husband as the case was registered in 2011.She alleged that just before the 2013 polls, two cases under the Meghalaya Preventive Detention Act were slapped on him to prevent him from contesting the Assembly polls.
The wife hinted that this time too, her husband was victimised as he wanted to contest the polls.
