SHILLONG: Gallantry, chivalry and valour are their watchwords. They are a bunch of brave citizens, sentinels of the nation, who maintain law and order, fight insurgency and insurrection and keep the nation’s porous borders safe, thereby ensuring that tens of millions of civilians enjoy a sound sleep at night.
And Meghalaya’s record in sending its brave sons and daughters to the front is impeccable. On Republic Day, Meghalaya, and indeed the entire country, has every reason to be proud of them.
On Republic Day, the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service went to Chauenlai Sangma, Assistant Commandment of SF-10, Meghalaya.
The Police Medal for Meritorious Service has three proud recipients from the state: Juli G Momin, Additional Inspector General, Shillong, Jerry Fiscer K Marak, Commanding Officer, Shillong and Janice K Marak, Inspector, West Garo Hills.
The Police Medal for Gallantry has been awarded to Bitching N Marak, Inspector, Kordor Sohtun, Constable and Kingtan Momin, Fireman.
Three officers and one Naik of the Meghalaya Civil Defence and Home Guards organisation have been named as the recipients for the President’s Home Guards and Civil Defence Medal for Distinguished Service and Home Guards and Civil Defence Medal for Meritorious Service on the eve of Republic Day.
Sniawbhalang Rangad, Commandant of the Central Training Institute of Civil Defence and Home Guards, Mawdiangdiang, and Omar Thomson Shangpliang, Commandant of the Border Wing Home Guards Battalion were declared the recipients of the prestigious President’s Home Guards and Civil Defence Medal for Distinguished Service.
They are the only HG & CD personnel from the North-East to be awarded this medal apart from seven others from the rest of the country.
Merinpole K Sangma, Joint Director of Civil Defence and Joint Commandant General of Home Guards, and Bransley Sohphoh, Civil Defence, Nongstoin, were named as the recipients of the President’s Home Guards and Civil Defence Medal for Meritorious Service.
They are amongst 24 HG & CD personnel from all over India who were conferred with this medal.
Dr Manishi Dubey, CMO (SAG), Commandant (Medical) of Frontier Headquarter, BSF, Shillong has been awarded the Police Medal for Meritorious Service.
The officer joined BSF on December 27, 1990 as Medical Officer after completion of her MBBS from Lady Hardinge Medical College, Delhi. She remained posted in Jammu & Kashmir during the Kargil conflict and at OP Parakaram after the Parliament attack and provided timely medical care to officers and men who were injured due to IED blasts or other terrorism-related incidents, including shelling/firing on the Line of Control.
