GUWAHATI: As the Nation celebrated its 69th Republic Day to remember when India’s Constitution came into force, a group of 20 college students from South Korea too sang the National anthem at the University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya and initiated a cleanliness drive along with their partner students from the Earth Science Department of the University. The tricolor was unfurled at 8.30 in the morning today by the Chancellor of the university, Mahbubul Hoque in the presence of staff, faculty and students.
“Students should work towards nation building and should have progress of the country as their foremost priority”, said Mr Hoque while addressing the gathering. He advised the students to do constructive work for the nation and humanity, apart from their regular studies.
Soon after hoisting of the National flag, various programmes began in the university campus. The university students’ volunteers group from South Korea and Meghalaya initiated a cleanliness drive as a part of their international drive to protect the environment and save mother nature. Simultaneously, various cultural and sports competitions were conducted among the students and staff, including Rongoli competition, singing competition, Tug of War, Cricket and Football match. Prizes were given away at the valedictory function held in the later part of the day.
