SHILLONG: The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has declared former BJP leader Vikash Gupta as its candidate from South Shillong constituency while a journalist, Starfing Pdahkasiej would contest the forthcoming elections on a NCP ticket from Mawsynram constituency.

Speaking to media persons after a meeting of the party here at Laban on Saturday, NCP State president, Saleng Sangma said that the party will do whatever it can to win the constituencies where it has fielded candidates.

“In few days, we will be naming some more candidate,” he said even as he added that   there were many issues in the constituency and kitchen wares would not suffice Sanbor Shullai in future.

Responding to a query, Sangma said that BJP might have secured good number of votes in South Shillong constituency in past but now things have changed as there is a lot of faction within the party itself.

On the other hand, Vikash Gupta said that they have worked with many MLAs and political leaders but no one has come forward to do something good for the people and people are still unemployed and the constituency is underdeveloped

“Life is miserable in this constituency,” he said while making a clarion call for providing a platform to the youths of the constituency.

He also said that the sitting MLA has failed drastically and people in the constituency does not have any opportunity besides   there are no skill development for the people.

Meanwhile, Starfing Pdahkasiej   recalled that he wanted to be an MLA since childhood even as he admitted that he was in love with the NCP for a very long time

“I don’t know why 80 percent of the population in my constituency is poor despite the fact that we have a lot of resources,” he added.
