10-day NCC training
camp concludes
Shillong: A 10-day annual training camp for NCC boys and girls cadets was organised by 2 Meghalaya Bn NCC at Shillong Public School from January 19 to January 28 where cadets from all over the state attended the camp. 50 boys and 50 girls cadets participated at the Republic Day celebration 2018 at Polo Ground. The camp was conducted with an aim to develop the spirit of comradeship, discipline, team spirit, leadership, character building, self-reliance and also inculcate spirit of community living. Drill, map reading, firing and tent pitching was conducted at the camp. Lecture on traffic police, vector borne diseases, health hygiene, drug abuse, HIV AIDS, fire fighting, disaster management were conducted followed by demonstration by Shillong Fire Service. The camp culminated with cultural programme and prize distribution and a closing address by Camp Commandant Col Daljit Singh.
Legal service camp held
Shillong: The District Legal Services Authority, East Khasi Hills District on Saturday organised a one-day legal service camp at Smit on a core theme “Bridging the Gap and Reaching Out”. The objective of the camp is to identify and connect the people to welfare schemes and to ensure that the fruits of such schemes are passed on to the eligible and marginalised section of the society. The camp was attended by District Session Judge, East Khasi Hills District, A. Kharumnuid, Sordar of Smit village K M Syiem and others. It also saw the participation of thousands of residents of Smit and the surrounding areas.
Pulse polio immunisation programme launched
Shillong: The Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization Programme (IPPI) 2018 was launched on Saturday at the Dorbar Hall, Jongksha village, East Khasi Hills District wherein the Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills, P S Dkhar was the Chief Guest. The programme was organised by the Office of the District Medical and Health Officer, East Khasi Hills District, Shillong. While addressing the gathering the Chief Guest put forth the reason why organising such programme is crucial to the health and well-being of a child. He points out that the main objective of the programme is to educate the public about the importance of immunising their children which will help in eradicating the deadly polio virus from this state. Earlier, District MCH Officer, East Khasi Hills, Dr J B Ranee informed the gathering that even though the World Health Organisation (WHO) had officially declared India as a polio free country in the year 2014, it is imperative that the state gears up for a preventive mechanism against this deadly disease.The programme was also attended by the Block Development Officer, L. T. Tariang, Medical and Health Officer, I/c Jongksha PHC, Dr. A Nongbri and local actor, Melvin Mukhim.
