SHILLONG: The founder member of Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM), Glenbert Khongwir rejoined the regional party on Monday along with a group of supporters.

Khongwir said that he had supported Congress member Roshan Warjri in 2013 but decided to come back to KHNAM after he found that she had not performed according to the assurances given to the people by her.

Speaking to reporters, he said that KHNAM was a movement and not just a political party.

It may be mentioned that Khongwir, a former Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) member had contested the Council elections in 2004 from Mawkhar constituency and 2008 Assembly polls from Mawkhar constituency.

He had contested both the elections from KHNAM.

Referring to the upcoming elections, Khongwir said that North Shillong candidate from KHNAM, Adelbert Nongrum would win by a big margin as he observed, “North Shillong electorate are wise.”

Meanwhile, Nongrum, who is also KHNAM’s working president said that the re-entry of Khongwir in KHNAM’s camp would strengthen the party.
