New Delhi: Congress on Monday described the CPI-M’s suggestion for an impeachment motion against Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra as a “sensitive issue” which would require indepth deliberations before a final decision can be taken.
“The Opposition leaders will meet together to deliberate on all issues, as there are concerns about the functioning of the judiciary,” Congress leader Anand Sharma told media here.
He was responding to a question about CPI-M General Secretary Sitaram Yechury’s remarks about the possibility of an impeachment motion against the CJI after four senior-most judges complained about arbitrary allocation of cases in the Supreme Court.
Sharma said that Parliament is the right forum to take up the matter (impeachment motion).
“But this (impeachment motion) is also a sensitive issue, that’s why indepth deliberations and examinations of the matter is required before a final call can be taken. But surely the Parliament must discuss it,” the Congress leader added. (ians)
