Saikhom  Mirabai  Chanu brings pride for N F Railway

GUWAHATI: Saikhom Mirabai Chanu has brought laurels for N F Railway when she has been selected for the “Padma Shri” Award – one of the highest civilian Awards of the country, in sports discipline for the year of 2018. “Padma Shri” is awarded for distinguished service in any field which announced on the occasion of Republic Day every year.

The award will be conferred to her by the President of India at ceremonial function to be held at Rashtrapati Bhawan during March/April, 2018.

Chanu is presently working as Senior Ticket Collector in Lumding division of N F Railway. She is the 2nd player from India to have won Gold medal in the World Weight Lifting Championship 2017 held at USA after a gap of 22 years (after Karnam Maleswari in 1994 & 1995).

Chanu has several Gold medals in International level in her kitty i.e. in XII SAF Games held at Guwahati in 2016, 32nd Women Sr. National Championship held at Tamilnadu in 2016, Commonwealth Senior Men & Women Championship held at Australia in 2017, World Wet lifting Championship held at USA, All India Railway Weight lifting Championship held at kapurthala in 2017 and 33rd Women Senior National Championship held Mangalore, Karnataka in 2018 beside others.

Chanu has joined in N F Railway on August 31, 2015 .

Chanu was felicitated by Chahatey Ram, General Manager on January 28.
