JOWAI: The Assam police’s attempt to construct a border outpost in two villages in West Jaintia Hills was thwarted by state police on Monday.
Assam police were trying to construct a BOP at Khatkasla and Psiar villages along Assam border. The headmen of these villages, Rikmen Sungoh and M Synnah, said that the Assam Police had arrived with armed personnel and JCBs to start the construction work of the BOP at the bordering West Jaintia Hills and Karbi Anglong.
However, the villagers alerted police who came and stopped the work after minutes of argument. The work was started without the permission of the deputy commissioner and the police super. The Assam Police have come from Jrikyndeng police station and also from Mukoilum along with Earth Mover (JCBs) to prepare a site for the construction of Assam Border Police Outpost at Khatkasla village in the disputed area bordering West Jaintia Hills and Karbi-Anglong District.
The headmen informed that the Assam Police have come to Khatkasla village early on Monday morning along with armed personnel and JCB and with the help of JCB, they removed some trees and also leveled the site for construction of the Assam BOP.
The site for construction of the BOP is a forest jointly owned by the two villages.
There was an agreement that both WJH and Karbi-Anglong DCs should be informed before taking up any developmental works.
