Governor flags off Martyrs’ run in Tura

TURA: Governor of Meghalaya, Ganga Prasad on Tuesday morning flagged off the Martyr’s Run for Peace at Chandmary Playground, which was organized by the West Garo Hills District Administration in Tura.

 

The Run which was organized to commemorate the 69th Death Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the ‘Father of the Nation’ began from the Chandmari Playground and culminated at Dikki Bandi Stadium in Dakopgre, covering a distance of about 7 kms. The event witnessed a huge participation from people of all ages who came braving the cold winter morning chill.

 

Addressing the participants before flagging off the run, the Governor paid glowing tribute to the Father of the Nation and reminded the people how through his persistent and yet non-violent struggles the Nation had achieved independence from foreign rule. He also urged the people to rededicate themselves for peace, prosperity and all round development of the state by following the paths shown by the Father of the Nation.
