Governor roots for focus on rural development in Garo Hills

Tura: Meghalaya Governor Ganga Prasad who arrived  on his maiden visit to Garo Hills interacted with district officials at the Tura Circuit House on Monday evening. West Garo Hills deputy commissioner Ram Singh along with Superintendent of Police, Dr. M G R Kumar and other district officials welcomed the governor on his arrival at Tura.

 

In a meeting with district officials, the governor emphasized on the context of rural development and urged the officials to be willing to go and work in the villages and avoid the mentality of staying in the headquarter, etc. He insisted upon them to visit the villages and understand the ground realities before preparing various proposals to be submitted to the government.

 

Further, the Governor informed that the Central Government has special attention for the development of North Eastern States and added that under the instruction of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Union Ministers would be visiting North Eastern States every month in order to know and understand the challenges faced by the people of the region.

 

He also informed that inviting 10 Asian Heads  to the 69th Republic day celebrations in the National Capital on 26th January, 2018 was one step ahead in the direction of developing North Eastern States. Further, lamenting on the poor market facilities in the region, the Governor directed the concerned authorities to assist the farmers by regulating market prices for their products since most of the time farmers does not reap maximum benefit for their produce.

 

Earlier, in the meeting, a brief profile of the district of West Garo Hills District was presented in a power point presentation highlighting the blocks, major departments in the district including cultural festival, different flagship programmes and promotional activities being implemented in the district amongst others.

 

The Governor was given a traditional welcome by presenting traditional Jacket and Head Gear along with traditional Wangala dance.
