SHILLONG: Blame it on the fuddy-duddy chopper he was supposed to fly in, AICC president Rahul Gandhi’s scheduled visit to Tura on Tuesday has been cancelled.
As per the earlier schedule, Tura besides Jowai and Shillong was part of Rahul’s itinerary and he was to travel to the Garo Hills from Guwahati on a chopper.
The working president of Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee, Vincent Pala said on Monday that the Special Protection Group had raised concerns over Rahul travelling in a 20-year-old helicopter.
However, Chief Minister Mukul Sangma and other passengers use the same Pawan Hans helicopter to fly to Tura.
During a press conference convened by Pala and other Congress leaders in the city on Monday, media persons put forward the pertinent question as to why Rahul’s life was more precious than the chief minister and other leaders of Meghalaya who use the chopper on a regular basis.
However, it was learnt that due to paucity of time the Congress had no option but to cancel Rahul’s visit to Tura.
