SHILLONG: PN Syiem said on Tuesday that he might have political rivalry with Congress candidate HM Shangpliang but use of lethal weapons or an attempt of murder should not be encouraged.
Syiem, who was referring to the recent attack on his brother Kynpham N. Syiem in a border area in Mawsynram, told media persons that his condition was improving and he would be released from hospital soon.
“The Gypsy car that the miscreants (who stabbed Kynpham) used is very much like the Gypsy used by the Congress workers,” he said, adding that the people who attacked his brother were the main party workers of the Congress.
“It seems there was a political connection to it though I can’t say much about this as police investigation is on,” he added.
The chief of the People’s Democratic Front said his elder brother Kynpham, who stays in Dangar, can speak Bengali fluently and can bring along the people in the area with the PDF.
Two miscreants have been identified as Kyllang Thongni and Pusterwel Disiar and they surrendered to the police last week.
A case has been registered under Section 307 (attempt to murder), Section 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means) and Section 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention).
