PM to open Assam’s maiden global investment summit on Feb 3

Guwahati: The two-day Advantage Assam- Global Investors Summit 2018 is all set to kick-start with the presence of over 2000 domestic and international industry leaders and representatives.  Prime Minister, Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Summit on 3rd February 2018 in Guwahati.

 Several union ministers including  Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways, Shipping and Water Resources;  Suresh Prabhu, Union Minister for Commerce and Industries; Ravi Shankar Prasad, Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology, Law and Justice; Smriti Zubin Irani, Union Minister for Textiles & Information and Broadcasting; Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas and Skill Development and Entrepreneurship; Jitendra Singh, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region; Kiren Rijiju, Minister of State for the Ministry of Home are expected to take part in the proceedings.

The State Government has also been able to draw the attention of industry leaders like Ratan Tata, Tata Group; Mukesh Ambani, Reliance Group of Industries;  Dilip Shanghvi, Sun Pharmaceuticals Industries Ltd.; Anand Burman, Dabur; Dr. Subhash Chandra, Chairman, Essel Group and ZEE; Amar Abrol, Air Asia India;  Rashesh Shah, Chairman, Edelweiss;  Sushil Goenka, Managing Director, Emami Group; Sanjiv Puri, ITC Limited;  Harshavardhan Neotia, Ambuja Neotia Cements; Dr. Naresh Trehan, CMD, Medanta- The Medicity; Subhash Ghai, Executive Chairman, Mukta Arts Ltd; Balakrishan Goenka, Chairman, Welspun Group have confirmed to be a part of the summit deliberations.

The present Government of Assam has been championing for long, the need of a rapid industrialisation in the State. However, it has been firm on not being proponent to pollution creating industries. The State thus has carefully crafted its industrial design so as to provide access to those technology- enabled industries which has negligible carbon footprint.

The Government of Assam also understands the criticality of providing ease of doing businesses in order to gain attention from national and international investors. It aims to create a platform for providing best support towards the prospective and existing business community in the state and drives forward the state’s vision of prosperity for all – by employing technology, innovation, inclusivity and sustainability as key factors for development. To this effect, the Government has instituted Single Window Agency, a trade facilitator to coordinate with various relevant government departments, with an objective to increase the efficiency of the state’s and country’s economy through time and cost saving . This will ensure in the creation of a working environment conducive for the wholesome growth and sustainance of a competitive and thriving business culture in the State of Assam.

The maiden Global Investors Summit, 2018 aims to project Assam as India’s expressway to the South-East Asian nations. Advantage Assam will be the largest ever investment promotion and facilitation initiative by the Government of Assam. Besides, the Summit will showcase the opportunities offered by the state in terms of export-oriented manufacturing and services to ASEAN and BBN countries. The objective of the Summit is to position Assam as India’s Expressway to ASEAN.

Ø  H.E. Ounethoang Khaophanh, Vice Minister of Information Culture and Tourism, Government of Laos

Ø  H.E. Dr. Than Myint, Minister of Commerce Myanmar

Ø  Ambassadors/High Commissioners and Business Delegations from 12 other countries like USA, Vietnam, UAE, Netherland, Nepal, Korea, Japan, Israel, Indonesia, Germany, Czech Republic, Canada will also be present

Some of the key efforts of the Government of Assam are:

•             A 160 square kilometre industrial corridor has also been approved by the cabinet to facilitate easy land purchases by business persons to establish firms without land conversion issues

•             Fresh land allotments have been made to create brand new industrial estates.

•             With a number of large scale international connectivity projects nearing completion, Assam is fast emerging as a connectivity hub.

•             Industrial estates within the state are also being improved to strengthen infrastructure.

•             Labor skilling and promoting technical and industry oriented courses in colleges and ITIs

•             Strengthen the business ecosystem fundamentals like power distribution, road infrastructure, common facilities at industrial estates etc.
