SHILLONG: Only two independent candidates filed their nominations on the second day of the filing of nominations here at the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Shillong.
Independent candidate from Nongkrem constituency, Lambor Malngiang and another independent candidate from Mawlai, Teibor Pathaw on Thursday filed their nominations.
Speaking to media persons after filing nominations, Malngiang said that there were lots of disruptions in most of the political parties and hence he had decided to contest the election as independent candidate.
“ I am very much confident of winning the polls since I am serving people not only during elections but all the time,” he said, adding his priority areas will be good health care, good road connectivity and quality education for all since school dropout in Nongkrem constituency is quite high as many parents cannot afford to send their children to schools.
On being asked if it will be tough for an independent candidate to take on the candidates of the political parties, he denied such threat saying people in today’s generation does not look at the party of the candidate but they look at the individual.
Malngiang, however, refused to divulge his strategy for the polls
On the other hand, Teibor Pathaw told reporters that he can serve the people in a better way being an independent candidate. While expressing optimism that he would win the polls, he added that his priority is to serve the people in Mawlai constituency.
