SHILLONG: About 150 Congress workers and over 300 primary members have pledged their support for the National People’s Party (NPP) candidate Pongseng R Marak in Bajengdoba constituency of North Garo Hills.
The NPP candidate welcomed the Congress supporters into the party on Friday. “We welcome all the workers of the Congress into our fold. We believe that they will work to strengthen NPP in the constituency,” said Marak in a media statement released on Saturday.
NPP national president Conrad K Sangma will officially welcome the new entrants during an election rally on February 10.
“We are ecstatic that workers of different parties are coming out in large numbers to pledge their support for NPP. We believe that this will not only boost the morale of our leaders and candidates but also ensure victory of our candidates in their respective constituencies. The wave of NPP is spreading to all corners of the state and people and workers of different political parties are embracing it,” said the NPP chief.
