TURA: South Garo Hills police commandos of the SF-10 unit rescued a kidnapped person from the clutches of a gang of former militants who had kidnapped and confined him in a jungle hideout on Tuesday morning.

The victim, Prasanta Tapadhar, working as a manager for a firm was taken away at gunpoint by unidentified men from his home at Rongsa Awe on the night of February 2nd.

Police search teams while conducting combing operations in the Dikagre forests near Rongsa Awe, under Jadigittim police outpost jurisdiction, spotted a group of five armed men at around 10:30 in the morning camping in a forest and holding a man captive.

As they approached the site the armed men fired at them leading to an exchange of gunfire for a few minutes in which the gang fled leaving behind their captive who was soon rescued.

Police believe the gang comprises of former GNLA rebels who were previously arrested for criminal activities and were now out on bail.
