SHILLONG: Congress party in West Shillong constituency has received a major boost just before the elections after former BJP leader from the area, Sony Khyriem joining it on Saturday.
Khyriem said that they had worked very hard to strengthen the BJP in the constituency with a sole objective to prepare for the polls but at the end, the saffron party without any consultation decided not to field the candidate there.
“We feel that it was a dictatorial and despotic decision and the best option for us now is to support Congress,” he said.
He also said that the Congress party now has a very good chance to win the polls in the constituency and all of them would work in tandem to ensure victory for the Congress.
The Congress has pitted Mohendro Rapsang against veteran sitting United Democratic Party legislator, Paul Lyngdoh and National People’s Party nominee Havergail Bareh.
