State poll panel chief holds meet at Tura

TURA: The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Meghalaya, Frederick Roy Kharkongor along with Additional Chief Electoral Officer, T Lyngwa met with the Deputy Commissioners and Superintendent of Police of the districts of Garo Hills region at DRDA Conference Room in Tura on Saturday.

During the meeting, F R Kharkongor reviewed the preparedness in the respective districts for the General Elections 2018 to the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly. District wise reports on election matters and its preparedness were briefed to the CEO by all the District Election Officers and Superintendent of Police of all the respective districts.

On the aspect of connectivity and the challenges faced in the region, F R Kharkongor stressed on the need to have backup sources from different service providers in order to ensure smooth conduct of election process especially on the day of polling for webcasting and for news updates, etc. Meanwhile, on the issue of electricity, the CEO informed that they would be providing solar lanterns as required by the respective districts.

With regard to the theme of Accessible Election, he also requested all the District Election Officers to ensure that there are ramps and other required facilities in the polling stations and to arrange special assistance for PWD voters. Further, he urged all the District Election officers to update and send necessary information related to elections on time and directed them to follow the procedures as per the guidelines of the Election Commission of India.
