TURA: An SSA teacher in South West Garo Hills has been accused of using “illegal means” to get the government job and also dereliction of duty.
Villagers of Dolwakgre, in their complaint to the District Mission Coordinator and the Education Department, have alleged that Aminul Islam, who teaches Mathematics and Science at the upper primary school in the village in Tikrikilla, got the job through backdoor appointment in 2016. They also said that Islam had been neglecting his duties as a teacher.
“He comes to school for only an hour and that too for three to four days a month,” the villagers said and added that Islam runs a business and that he has ID cards from both Meghalaya and Assam.
There were other allegations of cheating against Islam. The villagers said he was deceiving many people over the years by taking their arecanut plantations under mortgage with the promise of building houses for them.
Some of the villagers cheated by Islam include Henna A Sangma of Balsatgre, Margareth A Sangma of Ganglagre and Wenjak Marak of Dolwakgre.
Islam has taken mortgage almost every arecanut plantation at Dajugre, Dugalgre and Jelbonggre villages most of which is sold off to a person identified as Rostom Ali from Chibinang.
The villagers urged the District Mission Coordinator and the Education Department to take action. They also appealed to NGOs from the area to take up the matter so that Islam’s illegal activities can be stopped.
