SHILLONG: With barely few weeks before the Assembly polls in the state, a live Chinese hand grenade was recovered from the private vehicle belonging to a Congress supporter in West Shillong here on Monday morning

SP (City), Spill Thamar informed that the police were informed about the suspected bomb at around 11 am at Bishop falls area in Mawprem

Soon, the SP along with other police officials reached the spot and cordon off   the area.

The live Chinese hand grenade was recovered from the spare tyre of the Bolero vehicle (ML05F 2927) belonging to Michael Pakyntein, who is the frontline supporter of   Mohendro Rapsang.

According to Thamar, it is very difficult to ascertain as of now whether there was a political vendetta behind the incident and police would also send the grenade to Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL).

He also said that the area has already been identified as critical and police would deploy   additional forces besides increasing its patrolling in the area.

On the other hand, Mike Pakyntein alleged that this was the handiwork of the opponent   even as he added that this was not a war but an election

“Some people are scared and they are playing   dirty politics,” he said while informing that he has already filed an FIR into the incident.
