Observers review poll preparedness
SHILLONG: The second level randomization and preparation of EVMs and VVPATs was held on Wednesday at the election computer cell in Mairang in the presence of general observer Manjit Singh Narang, additional election deputy commissioner HS Diengdoh and various other political parties. Narang informed the representatives that randomization is done to maintain transparency and to separate the EVM machines used for training and for the elections.Narang, along with expenditure observer Sashank Dwivedi and police observer Sabyasachi Raman Mishra, conducted a joint inspection on Wednesday to assess the availability of assured minimum basic facilities in designated polling stations. Random inspection of polling stations is done to ensure poll preparedness.Narang invited suggestions from political parties if any, but the members expressed satisfaction on the briefing.
3rd Orientation Programme for Teachers concludes
SHILLONG: Madan Hindi Pathshala Secondary School in Madanrting, organized the 3rd Orientation Programme for Teachers on February 9 and 10. The theme for the programme was titled “Taking Small Steps with a Hope”. The programme also highlighted the challenges of better infrastructure in all aspects of teaching and learning in most schools especially in sub-urban and rural. The programme concluded with a hope that the government will add more value and support in due course as informed by orientation programme coordinator and MHPSS secretary Krishna Chauhan.
Police uncover illegal transportation
SHILLONG: Police detected a few dumper trucks transporting boulders from a crusher which were operating illegally during patrolling at Rani area in Ri-Bhoi district on February 8. The dumper trucks were transporting boulders from the crusher belonging to Kamlesh Das, Binay Kalita, Upsar Nanghuda and Mantu Kalita and police managed to apprehend one driver for questioning. However, one Harimohan Rajbangshi along with his brother, Pabitra, and others who were spotted riding motorcycles (with Assam registration numbers) stopped the police vehicle near a petrol pump under Assam police limits and the ensuing melee the driver managed to escape.
Shylla seeks Ardent apology
SHILLONG: National People’s Party (NPP) candidate from Nongkrem HS Shylla said on Wednesday that HSPDP candidate Ardent Basaiawmoit should apologise to the headman of Mawmuthoh for calling him a “street boy”. In a statement issued here, Shylla accused Basaiawmoit of threatening headman Ribor Kharumnuid’s family. “Basaiawmoit must seek apology from the District Election Officer (DEO) as the show-cause reply to the DEO was not true,” Shylla said. Basaiawmoit had replied to the showcause notice issued by the district administration for holding a meeting without seeking necessary permission. Shylla also warned to file a complaint against Basaiawmoit if he does not apologise.
