NONGPOH: A campaign rally of the UDP-HSPDP alliance here on Friday witnessed the participation of an impressive number of non-tribals who once supported the Congress.
Many non-tribal voters from among the audience said they would support the UDP candidate Rona Khymdeit this time.
Paul Lyngdoh, UDP’s working president, said it was time that “regional parties rule the state”.
“The boundary dispute that has not been resolved is one of the failures of the Congress government,” Lyngdoh said. The UDP leader added that public money was wasted on dinner thrown by Mukul Sangma for his guests, including Bollywood actors, during the Eastern Panorama Festival at Pinewood Hotel last year, “where dinner of each person cost Rs 2 lakh, whereas the people of the state had to suffer”.
UDP’s Metbah Lyngdoh and HSPDP’s Teilinia Thangkhiew exhorted the people of the constituency to give regional parties a chance to rule the state to bring about a change and overall development.
Khymdeit sounded confident and said she would get a glorious victory unlike the previous elections.
